I don't think I could give a better explanation than the synopsis on the Wikipedia page.
The anime and the manga are a bit different.
The anime seems to focus on the search for meaning in life.
There are some interesting questions asked amidst some slice of life episodes.
The story line doesn't seem to get boring, at least from my perspective,
and uses bit of Urban Legend & spirituality to grab your attention as well.

The fans at ANN seem to think it's worth a solid 8 (8 to 8.2).
I think it's a little better than that,
with it's rewatchability and supernatural theme,
I have to give it 9.

This anime is another one that is quite rare,
it's far to short and it leaves you wanting more.
